Crimes Nearby: Two Men Arrested for String of Home Burglaries

A list of recent arrests and police activity in the towns neighboring Hauppauge.

The following information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Commack

Thomas Scandura, 20, of Commack, was arrested Nov. 15 in Commack and charged with loitering and unlawful use of a controlled substance. Scandura was arrested while sitting in the driver seat of the 2008 Mazda on Florida Avenue.

Jessica Cuomo, 19, of Commack, was arrested Nov. 15 in Commack and charged with criminal possession of marijuana, loitering and unlawful use of a controlled substance. Cuomo is accused of possessing more than 25 grams of marijuana and using cocaine in the back seat of the 2008 Mazda on Florida Avenue.

Sachem

Two men have been arrested for burglaries that occurred in Holtsville, Holbrook and Medford during the past three months, according to police. Brian Firman, 20, of Bay Shore, and Tyler Ciervo, 19, of Holtsville, were charged with 10 counts of second-degree burglary after being arrested for  burglarized two Holtsville homes on Nov. 21. Police said further investigation revealed that they were responsible for at least eight additional daytime burglaries of homes since September.

Smithtown

Jonathon Knapp, 54, of St. James, was arrested Nov. 17 in St. James and charged with second-degree harrassment. Reports indicate Knapp allegedly grabbed a female victim by the neck, slapped her across the face and pushed her up against a wall.

Anthony Lucente, 22, of Smithtown, was arrested Nov. 16 in Smithtown and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Lucente is accused of possessing prescription pills and a hypodermic needle, and of fleeing from police through a yard and a wooded area

Andre Machate, 41, of St. James, was arrested Nov. 16 in Smithtown and charged with fourth degree grand larceny and petty larceny. Machate allegedly stole a 2001 Honda motorcycle from Ace Auto Wreckers on Long Island Avenue in Deer Park. He is also accused of stealing cash from a male victim on Lake Avenue in St. James.

Three Village

William Stover, 56, of East Setauket, was arrested on Nov. 12 at 9:15 p.m. and charged with first degree operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. He was reportedly pulled over in a 1994 Ford near 1975 Route 347 in Saint James.

Kimberly Bailey, 24, of South Setauket, was arrested on Nov. 15 and charged with petty larceny. She allegedly took 19 items of assorted merchandise from Walmart in South Setauket.

Port Jefferson

Joseph Pillus, Jr., 47, from Port Jefferson, was arrested on Nov. 16 for submitting a false statement to an insurance company. He reportedly tried to submit a claim or other benefit containing misrepresentation.

Craig Eastman, 39, from Port Jefferson Station, was arrested on Nov. 16 at 12:25 a.m. and charged with third-degree assault with intent to cause injury. He reportedly struck a female above left eye, causing a laceration.

Joseph Reyes, 44, an undomiciled man, was arrested on Nov. 17 and charged with disorderly conduct: obscene language or gesture. He reported was screaming and cursing at people in the Mather Hospital parking lot.
