Dec. 12: Fatal Accident, Skating Fundraiser and Ice Hockey

Sunday has pair of charitable events at The Rinx following community tragedy.

Sunday hosts a pair of charitable events at The Rinx for two different causes: one for dog rescue and the other a young girl with local connection. This comes after a nice of sleet-like hail, which iced roads after a fatal accident on Townline Road.

1. Grab your ice skates and head to for a fundraiser  from 6 - 8 p.m. The event features ice skating, skate rental, pizza and a visit from Santa in attempts to raise money to help pay medical bills of The Rinx owner's granddaughter, Corey Beattie, who broke her neck in a car accident.

2. If your not comfortable on the ice, bring the children to   at the .  Starting at 2 p.m., storyteller Gerald Fierst will tell the tales of Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza and even the Winter Solstice.

3. Cheer on  as they take on St. Anthony's at The Rinx. The game is scheduled for 9:20 p.m., but may start up to 15 minutes early if the ice is available.

4. Suffolk County police shut down a portion of Townline Road when a woman died after losing control of her car and striking a utility pole on Saturday night. Read more on
