Four Injured in Hauppauge House Fire

Hauppauge House goes up in flames early Tuesday morning after an electrical vent overheats.

A Hauppauge house fire early Tuesday morning sent four of its occupants to local hospitals.

Suffolk County police said they responded to a 911 call at 1:11 a.m reporting smoke and flames coming from a home on Woodbury Road in Hauppauge.

Hauppauge firefighters helped 14 occupants inside the home safely evacuate. Four residents were transported to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown to be treated for smoke inhalation, one of whom was later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital. Police said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Early reports said the fire was started by an electrical generator that was hardwired into the house. Suffolk County police said the cause of the fire was overheating of an electrical vent, but they could not confirm if it was related to the generator use.

The American Red Cross has stepped in to help offer shelter to the family, according to police.
