Hauppauge House Robbed Over New Year's

Camelia Place home robbery was witnessed by members of the local neighborhood watch.

Hauppauge residents witnessed a Camelia Place home being broken into and robbed over New Year's Eve weekend. 

Suffolk County police said they responded to reports of a home break on Camelia Place, in the northwest corner of of Hauppauge, on Monday. The homeowners were away at the time, and estimated the robbery must have occured between Dec. 30, 2011 and Jan. 2., according to police reports. 

Members of The Perfect Neighborhood Watch in the area reported seeing signs of a burglary at approxiately 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 2. The robbers gained access to the house by damaging the front door, according to an eyewitness report sent out via email to the watch group's nearly 200 members.

Suffolk County police said the thieves took jewelery and other items from the house, but would not give an estimate of their value. 

The neighborhood watch e-mail states a suspicious couple driving a beat up Toyota Corolla from the 90s, early 2000s was seen parked in front of the house.

Police would not confirm the description of the suspected thieves. The robbery is currently under investigation.
