Teen Hit By Unlicensed Driver On Route 347

Pedestrian struck in front of ShopRite Shopping Center in serious condition.

Suffolk County police arrested an unlicensed driver who hit a teenager in front of the ShopRite Shopping Center in Hauppauge on Friday morning.

Holtsville resident Jamie Ceron, 37, was driving his 2004 Mazda sedan westbound on Route 347, according to police, when he hit Fredi Yanes at 1:47 a.m. Police said Yanes, 19, of Glen Cove, was standing in the road. Yanes was transported by Stony Brook Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition.

Police said they do not know why Yanes was standing in the middle of Route 347 on Friday morning.

Ceron was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree. He will be arraigned in Central Islip courts.

Suffolk County police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or with further information to call the Fourth Squad Detectives at 631-854-8452.
