Man Holds Up Armored Car Outside Chase Bank

Man attempted to steal cash from guards who serviced an outdoor ATM on Tuesday evening.

A man attempted to steal cash from an armored car outside Chase Bank in Islandia on Tuesday evening.

Suffolk County Police said a thief approached a Guarda armored car that was servicing an outdoor ATM machine at the Islandia Chase Bank on Veterans Highway at approximately 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. The man verbally demanded the guards hand over canisters containing cash. The guards complied with the demand by handing over the containers, according to police reports. 

As a second guard approached the area, police said the suspect pointed what appeared to be a gun at the guards. The second guard fired his weapon at the attempted thief, according to reports.

The would-be thief dropped the cash canisters and fled the bank on foot, heading in an eastward direction, according to police. 

Police investigating the incident said they are looking for a male suspect who is approximately 6 feet tall and wearing dark clothing.
