A Nesconset man entered a not guilty plea on Thursday in a hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian walking along Route 347 and leaving the scene in September 2012.
Newsday reports that Craig Williams, 38, is free on $25,000 bail after pleading not guilty to charge of leaving the scene of the accident in the Sept. 29 crash that killed Thomas Wik Jr., 23, of Nesconset. However, William's drivers license has been revoked.
Joanne Wik, mother of Thomas Wik, said she was upset with police who did not make Williams give a breath test or take a blood sample to find out if he was driving impaired after the accident.
Her husband, Thomas Wik, said it "pays to know somebody" pointing out William's father works as an investigator in the county district attorney's office. As such, attorney Stephen Scaring of Garden City has been appointed special prosecutor in this case.
On Sept 29, 2012, Thomas Wik Jr. was walking eastbound on Nesconset Highway at 4:45 a.m. when he was hit by a 2006 Honda driven by Craig Williams, 38, of Nesconset, police said. Williams reportedly left the scene of the crash, and was arrested at his home after reporting the accident to police 45 minutes later.
