Medical Office Reports Employee Theft, Phone Scam Fails to Claim Victim

Suffolk police responded to recent criminal activity in Hauppauge.

• The Long Island Head Injury Association, based on Kennedy Drive in Hauppauge, reported an employee theft after discovering a discrepancy in a patient's account. The incident, which is being investigated as a case of fourth-degree grand larceny, allegedly took place May 31 but was discovered on Aug. 16.

• A resident of Saturn Boulevard in Hauppauge reported Aug. 14 that someone called his house and asked for money to be wired in relation to an alleged DWI accident in which his nephew was involved. The caller, described as having a young-sounding male voice, asked about the nephew by name. The resident did not send money and it was later determined that the nephew had not been in such an accident.
