Nesconset Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal DWI Crash

Robert Watson admits he was driving drunk in October 2010 crash that killed Patchogue resident Kevin Mead.

A Nesconset resident admitted to driving drunk and fleeing the scene of a fatal car accident in October 2010.

Robert Watson III, 24, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, first-degree assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead Wednesday.

Watson was driving his 2007 Nissan on Veterans Memorial Highway in Bohemia when he driven by 57-year-old Allan Collins. Collins was in the left turning lane, stopped at a red light at the intersection of Johnson Avenue.

Following the crash, Watson sped off but was quickly apprehended by police.

Patchogue resident Kevin Mead, 26, who was sitting in the back of the Mazda sustained severe head and neck injuries in the crash. He was rushed to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, where he died as result of the injuries 11 days later.

Collins was also seriously injured in the accident.

Watson is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 9. He is being held in leiu of $75,000 bail.
