Pedestrian Killed In Motor Vehicle Crash

Hauppauge man hit attempting to cross Expressway Drive North on Sunday.

A Hauppauge man was killed attempting to cross the Long Island Expressway Drive North on Sunday, said Suffolk County police.

Robert Denise, 56, was attempting to walk across Expressway Drive North near MacArthur Boulevard at 8:30 p.m.  Police said East Northport resident Thomas Martino, 26, was driving a 2006 Honda Accord westbound on Expressway Drive North when he hit struck Denise.

"The driver told police the victim suddenly came into this field of vision and he had no time to stop the car," said Dt. Jack Fitzpatrick of the Fourth Squad.

Denise was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of Suffolk County Medical Examiner, according to police reports. The driver was not injured in the accident.

Martino's vehicle was impounded for a safety check as Suffolk County police are investigating the accident. No charges have been filed against the driver, Fitzpatrick said.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or with additional information to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
