Police: Delaware Teacher From Long Island Had Sex With 13-Year-Old Student

Stephanie Seabury, a Hauppauge native, faces a sexual abuse charge.

A Long Island native teaching at a Delaware middle school has been arrested after police discovered she was having sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student, authorities said.

Stephanie Seabury turned herself in at the Dover Police Department on Monday after an investigation revealed that the 22-year-old English teacher at Fred Fifer III Middle School had been engaged in an "inappropriate relationship" with a male student in her class, police said.

Seabury, a 2009 Hauppauge High School graduate according to her LinkedIn profile, is charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust or authority.

Dover police said they were alerted to the relationship on March 12 and an investigation revealed that Seabury and the student met on numerous occasions, during which Seabury would meet the student at a prearranged location and then drive the teen to her apartment in Dover.

Surveillance footage from the afternoon of Feb. 26 showed Seabury and the student leaving the school together and walking toward her car, police said. The two had sex at Seabury's apartment on or about that same date, police said.

Seabury and the student also "exchanged several explicit phone messages and photographs," during their relationship, police said.

Seabury graduated from the University of Delaware in 2013 and began teaching at the middle school in Camden last August, according to LinkedIn.

She is currently free on $40,000 bond.
