A Hauppauge man was arrested Thursday after he crashed his car on New Highway and then fled the scene as police were attempting to apprehend him for striking two vehicles on the Northern State Parkway, State Police said.
According to police, Peter Mackoul, 31, was driving a 2013 BMW eastbound on the Northern State near Exit 46 at a "high rate of speed" when his car made contact with two other vehicles on the parkway.
Mackoul did not stop and passed by a state trooper who was stopped on the right shoulder. The trooper clocked Mackoul's speed at 104 mph.
Mackoul exited the Northern State as it merges with Vets Highway and attempted to turn right onto New Highway, where he lost control of the vehicle, skidded over the curb, and struck a sign post outside of the Fairfield apartment complex, police said.
Mackoul fled on foot and was later apprehended in the vicinity of the scene by Suffolk Police.
He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon (brass knuckles), reckless driving, leaving the scene of two property damage auto accidents, speeding and other traffic violations.
