Police: 20-Year-Old E. Northport Man Killed in Hit-and-Run

Suffolk County Police are seeking the public’s help in investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in East Northport early Thursday morning.

Police say Alexander Zydel, 20, of East Northport, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer heading west on Soundview Avenue when his car struck a tree at 12:55 a.m.

Zydel was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the roadway, according to police. He was then struck by a light-colored sedan that was traveling west on Soundview Avenue. The driver of the sedan fled the scene.

Zydel was transported to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives ask anyone with information about the crash or who may have been driving on Soundview Avenue at the time of the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Sending out prayers to his family....I hope the person that hit him comes forward and takes responsibility for their actions.....

R.I.P . The justice system is so unfair, I don't blame the person for not coming forward. Now that it is a criminal matter for leaving the scene of an accident with injury, I would suggest the person who hit this person get a lawyer. In todays world people are less likely to stop and render help or aid in fear of being prosecuted even if it was an accident. If the criminal justice system doesn't bankrupt you the civil law suit and insurance company will.

The weather last night was very bad and I am sure the weather did not help in this matter. Sad, Sad story.

lab tests, blood test and crime scene investigation will tell the real story. The weather is a factor but should not be the cause of driving into a tree fast and hard enough to throw you out of your vehicle.

Seat belts were a great idea. Find it hard to believe he was wearing one and got ejected. Hope that l am wrong
