Police: Man Approaches 9-Year-Old Girl
Officials say a man in his 40s drove up to the child on Feb. 1 in the area of Spartan Lane and Pinedale Road.
Suffolk County Police notified the Hauppauge School District that an unknown man reportedly approached a 9-year-old girl within the Spartan Lane and Pinedale Road area on Feb. 1, Superintendent Patricia Sullivan-Kriss announced Wednesday.
According to the superintendent's statement, the man is described to be in his 40s and was driving a white Lexus when he reportedly approached the girl.
The child avoided conversation with the man, she said, and the incident was reported to police.

Community members are reminded to make note of any suspicious or unknown vehicles or individuals seen in the community and to inform police by calling 911.
Parents are also encouraged to discuss potential dangers with their children and encourage them to walk in groups to and from school if transportation is not provided.
