Police Searching for Driver Who Fled Vets Highway Crash

State troopers and Suffolk County police are asking residents to keep an eye out.

Suffolk police and state troopers are searching through Hauppauge and Smithtown areas for a driver who fled the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

New York State Troopers said they are looking for a man who was involved in a car crash near the Veterans Memorial Highway and New Highway intersection at roughly 2:30 p.m.

State police said they are looking for the man to check on his well being and he is "not a danger to residents."

The Perfect Neighborhood Watch, based in Hauppauge, sent an email to its members at 3:30 p.m. stating police were chasing a white male who ran through the Fairfield apartment complex, fleeing from the scene of a car crash.

Residents have reported state police, K-9 units and an aerial helicopter have been called in for the search.

The  neighborhood watch said residents have been asked to call in any sighting of a white male wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt to 911.
