Police: Thief Breaks Into Car at Hidden Pond Park

Police said a woman's purse was stolen, credit cards illegally used.

Suffolk County police said a thief broke into a car at Hidden Pond Park, stealing a woman's purse and credit cards.

Police said they received a call on July 2 that property had been stolen from a parked car at on Terry Road in Hauppauge.

A woman told police that between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday someone broke into their friend’s vehicle, stealing her personal property, according to police reports.

The woman said her friend parked the car in the Hidden Pond Park parking lot and they left the vehicle for about an hour. When they returned to the car, they found the front windows was smashed, leaving broken glass in the car and ground. One of the women said she realized her Coach purse was missing.

The purse contained two credit cards, a wallet, some cash, a driver’s license and other personal property, according to police reports. Police said they couldn’t determine the value of the stolen property.

During the following investigation, police found out one of the stolen credit cards had been used. Police would not say where the credit card was used, what was purchased, or the amount that was added to the card. Police said they are still investigating this incident and have no further comment.

A Hidden Pond Park staff member said they have no comment on the incident.
