Update: Robbery at Lake Grove TD Bank

Suffolk police have called in an aerial helicopter to search the area.

UPDATE 7:55 p.m:

Suffolk police confirm that the TD Bank in Lake Grove was robbed at 3:20 p.m. Monday and that detectives from the pattern crime unit are investigating.

According to police a man entered the bank, located at 2822 Middle Country Road, and handed a note to a teller demanding cash, which the teller gave him. The man then fled on foot and was seen heading west on Middle Country Road.

The robber is described as a six-foot tall white man in his mid-20’s. He is clean-shaven and was wearing a dark-colored suit and tie, sunglasses and a beige and brown striped ski hat.

Robbers may have hit TD Bank in Lake Grove for the second time in a little more than two years, according to Suffolk County Police. 

Suffolk police said they received a 911 call at roughly 3:24 p.m. Monday reporting a possible robbery at TD Bank, 2822 Middle Country Road in Lake Grove. An active investigation is still ongoing as of 6:15 p.m. Monday. 

The Suffolk County Police Department's helicopter was called in to do an aerial search, said police. 

A TD Bank employee at the Lake Grove location confirmed the branch closed early on Monday, but would not give a reason why. Bank patrons were being directed to visit the nearby Lake Ronkonkoma branch. 

The same Lake Grove branch was robbed on Aug. 1, 2011. Suffolk police arrested Chris Nilsen, 52, of Central Islip, with with one felony count of third-degree robbery for allegedly entering the bank, approaching the counter and demanding cash. 

Police were able to track Nilsen a motorist observed Nilsen leaving the bank and was able to record his license plate number and a description of the vehicle, which was a 2010 white Chevrolet Camaro.
