Rocky Point Man Charged in 7-Eleven Robbery

According to Suffolk County Police, a patrolling officer noticed a robbery in progress.

A Rocky Point man was arrested early Wednesday morning after Suffolk County Police said a patrolling officer drove by and noticed him robbing a 7-Eleven in Coram.

Police said Christopher Degennarro, 26, was wearing a bandana over his face and was armed with a hammer as he ordered a cashier to the ground and approached the register.

According to police, the incident happened around 4:45 a.m. at the Route 25 location.

Degennaro was charged with first degree attempted robbery, and will be held overnight on Wednesday until he's arraigned in First District Court on Thursday in Central Islip.

Every single person should be aloud to carry a gun. We wouldn't have the problems we have now. It's a proven fact States that let residents carry a gun have a lower crime rate than states that don't. The bad guy would never know who he was up against and if that person had a gun. But no, in our state only the bad guy has a gun. We can't have one to carry.

So the guy with the hammer should be allowed to have a gun??

If he wants. So should everyone in the store. How far do you think he would have gotten if other customers had guns? Not very far that's for sure. This is a prime example why everyone should carry.

That is an ignorant statement to say ALL PEOPLE should be able to carry a gun. Some people are not mentally and emotionally stable to carry a concealed weapon. Say someone pulled a gun off their belt to try and stop the robber, but accidentally misfired and shot dead the robber or even worse an innocent bystander. Is robbing a local 7-11 deserving of a death penalty? I don't think so. Lets let law enforcement handle these situations, people are too crazy these days for me to trust them with carrying guns.

You can have your opion as I have mine. Just remember the police show up after the fact and can't protect you during. I agree mentally and emotionally disabled should not carry a gun. Does robbing a local 7-11 deserve being shot and killed? Do the crime and you may just wind up that way, so think twice before you rob a 7-11. If the perp is willing to rob a 7-11 with a hammer then he just might put a hole in your head and kill you. Maybe in Kohl's or your local CVS. Where is the cop when that happens? A hammer is a weapon so using a gun to protect yourself or someone else is the way to go and it makes the perp think twice about what he may encounter. It's been proven in other states. Do your research. Where is the cop when that happens.
