Route 347 Crash Seriously Injures Connecticut Teen

According to police, a 17-year-old Avon boy is in serious condition after a crash early Monday morning.

A Connecticut teen was sent to the hospital and is listed in serious condition after cops say he ran a red light and struck another car early Monday morning on Route 347 in Hauppauge.

According to Suffolk County Police, the Avon, Conn. teen was driving west on Route 347 when he "apparently ran a red light" at the intersection of Route 111. Seventeen-year-old Todd Slater's 1999 Volvo collided with a 2012 Audi around 12:30 a.m.

Slater had to be extricated from his car, police said, and was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he is being treated for a fractured hip and internal bleeding.

The driver of the Audi, Leonard Olmstead, and a passenger were treated for minor injuries.

Police are investigating the crash and are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452. All calls will be kept confidential.
