Female student is followed on route home from bus stop by men in a suspicious vehicle, second incident with a week.

Hauppauge school district officials confirmed that a second female student has been approached by a suspicious vehicle while on her route home from school within the past week.

James Stucchio, assistant superintendent of business and operations, said the district was notified Friday afternoon that a female student living in the bird section of Hauppauge, south of Route 347 and west of the Suffolk County complex, was approached by a suspicious vehicle after being dropped off at her bus stop.

The female student was followed by two men in a white van who told her to get in a van, according to a report made to the Perfect Neighborhood Watch. The girl was able to get away from the van unharmed.

Hauppauge school officials alerted district parents of the incident by sending out a message using their redundant dialer telephone system on Friday evening, Stucchio said.

"The district asks that members of the staff and community remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.  We also continue to educate our students about safety precautions when at the bus stop and other times when they are traveling without an adult," the assistant superintendent said in a statement.
