There's a new man in charge of the local Fourth Precinct.
Suffolk County Police Inspector William Murphy, 61, has replaced Inspector James Rhoads who retired from his post on Sept. 13,Newsday reports.
Rhoads, 65, has been the commanding officer of the Fourth Precinct since February 2005. The Fourth Precinct patrols the Town of Smithtown, including the incorporated Village of the Branch, Islandia and Lake Grove; and some bordering areas with the Town of Huntington, Islip and Brookhaven.
Chief of Patrol John Meehan told Newsday Rhoads retired on Sept. 13 as it was an important day to him - 45 years to the day that his airborne U.S. Army unit left Vietnam.
