TD Bank Robbed in Lake Grove

Suspect fled bank, led police on chase through Islandia before being arrested.

A Central Islip man was arrested Monday for robbing a TD Bank branch in Lake Grove, police said.

Chris Nilsen, 52, entered the bank, located at 2822 Middle Country Road, approached a teller and demanded cash around 3 p.m., according to Suffolk Police.

Police said the teller complied with the demand and Nilsen fled the scene. A motorist observed Nilsen leaving the bank and was able to record his license plate number and a description of the vehicle, which was a 2010 white Chevrolet Camaro.

A police officer observed the vehicle in the parking lot of a 7-11, located at 1700 Veterans Highway in Islandia. According to police, when the officer approached the vehicle, Nilsen drove it through the bushes, over a curb and back onto the roadway.

After a short pursuit, the vehicle was stopped at Hawthorne Avenue near Half Mile Road in Central Islip. Nilsen fled on foot and was later apprehended another officer.

Nilsen was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery. He will be held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Aug. 2.
