Teen Caught Drag Racing In Hauppauge

Cops arrest Huntington Station man for racing on Saturday night.

A teen has been arrested for drag racing through Hauppauge's industrial park Saturday night. 

Moulay Elmessaoudi, 18,of Huntington Station, has been arrested and charged with engaging in an illegal speed contest. Suffolk County police said they witnessed Elmessaudio drag racing down Wireless Boulevard near Moreland Road. 

Suffolk County Police said Elmessaoudio was seen driving his 2006 Dodge Charger RT eastbound on Wireless Boulevard. He was driving in the westbound lane, opposing oncoming traffic, while competing against another vehicle. A large group of spectators had gathered on the side of the road for the race, according to police reports.

Several prominent Hauppauge corporations have offices on Wireless Boulevard's relatively flat 0.75 mile stretch,  including , Hauppauge Industrial Association and It Make Scents, a fragrance outlet whose parking lot is at the corner of Wireless and Moreland Road.  

After the race, Elmessaoudi turned his vehicle around and began traveling back west on Wireless Boulevard. He was stopped by Fourth Precinct Officer Steve Bienemann, who witnessed the drag race while on patrol.

Police seized Elmessaoudi's vehicle before arresting him. It is unknown if police caught the competing driver, as an officer was not available to talk about the incident. 

Elmessaoudi was released on bail, and scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip court on a future date.
