Woman Killed in 2-Car Crash

Victim, 60, was visiting from Florida.

A Florida woman was killed Sunday in a two-car crash in East Northport.

said that Geraldine Michaelson, 60, had stopped at a red light at the intersection of Larkfield and Cedar Road about 4:40 p.m. After the light turned green, she started west but her vehicle was hit by a northbound Ford van. Police said the van went through a red light.

Michaelson was taken to , where she was later pronounced dead. A passenger in Michaelson’s vehicle, her 11-year-old granddaughter, and the driver of the van, Mark Fairchild, 57, were also treated at Huntington Hospital and released.

Fairchild, of East Northport, was issued a summons for driving through a red light.

Both vehicles where impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.

Dear N'rptr and Rose, I apologize if I upset you, I just cannot stand how a horrific traffic accident makes people think they know what happened. The simple truth is, we may never know exactly what happened and the poor woman that died is not around to tell her side of the story. As for Buddy, let me say, no matter what the car you drive, there are people that drive crazy all over in all different vehicles. have a good day all and drive safe, (hopefully the other person will too).

I was told by a police officer friend that they are able to issue a summons for a non-observed incident in certain situations and this was one. Unfortunately i didn't get any further clarification as the conversation too a different direction.
