Are You Concerned Over LIPA's Switch to PSEG?

Officials express concern over PSEG takeover of LIPA operations in 2014, according to a 'Newsday' report, though officials say concerns are unfounded.

Weeks after New York State officials issued a report stating that the Long Island Power Authority needs to , a Newsday report states that some critics are already expressing concern over a January 2014 switch from operator National Grid to PSEG.

The article lists Sen. Charles Schumer and State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli as a couple of individuals who have broached the subject. However LIPA assured customers that those concerns are unfounded.

"Given PSEG's success of storm planning and procedures and their commitment to improved service for our customers, we will have a storm plan that gives us a robust workforce utilizing all available Long Island resources," LIPA spokesman Mark Gross said in a statement.

This is actually the first I'm hearing of this. It's apparant that the National Grid needs work in some areas, especially after last year's hurricane debacle, so why not give PSE&G a shot? But why wait until 2014? Does National Grid have a contract until then?

I'm way more concerned about each and every day with National Grid.

I am more concerned by elites in Albany not allowing coal fracking and those in Washington fighting against the Keystone pipeline. Energy is good. Radical Green Eco-politicians are bad.

If Shoreham was built we wouldn't be having this discussion.

What would a Nuclear Power Plant have anything to do with repairing downed power lines???

National grid is gas. Pse&g already is the main outfit in jersey. Not sure if it's the way jerseys power grid is situated but every time there is a storm down there it seems like they are without power for weeks. With that being said, I doubt anyone will really notice a difference day to day. Just keep an eye on the bill. Because I'm sure we will pay more for this change somehow. Pse&g obviously sees this as a money maker for them.

You clearly no very little about fracking and the damage it can cause (and has caused). Research it a bit and see if you still want it.

Yes, we are getting Public Diservice Hellectric And Gas. With their sterling record of mediocrity in Joisey. Add that to LIPAsuction's political shenanigans and corruption and lack of understanding that a system designed for the beginning of the 20th century desperately needs updating and we're in even more trouble then we are now. Next Irene we get, probably take twice as long to get things sort of back up as it did last summer.
