Islandia Residents Likely to See Tax Hike

The Islandia village board approved the tentative $2.7 million budget.

Residents of Islandia can expect a $22 month tax increase based on a recently approved tentative budget.

The Islandia village board approved the tentative $2.7 million budget, raising taxes 1.62 percent from 0.94 percent, according to a report on Newsday. The 72 percent increase pierces the stat tax cap limiting yearly increases.

Mayor Allan Dorman said the increase is due to declining revenue from tax assessments and the loss of traffic ticket revenue to Suffolk County. In the past, the village received a percentage of fees from tickets given along the Islandia portion of the Long Island Expressway because the violations were heard in an Islandia court. Suffolk county now hears those cases.
