The Village of Islandia broke ground on its sixth annual Community Garden outside of Village Hall on May 7.

Village residents, board members and employees worked side by side to plant tomatoes, spinach, beans, radishes and peppers donated by Borella Nursery into the garden. They will continue to work on the garden throughout the summer.

The community garden was started by Mayor Allan Dorman in 2006, as part of a village initiative. For more information on the garden and how to get involved, call 631-348-1133.
