The Town of Islip is doing its part to help homeowners from running the risk of being flooded – in many cases, again.
As many homeowners in town rebuild, those in flood-hazard areas can now rebuild at a higher level then previously allowed after the town board altered its code, according to Newsday.
Instead of measuring height restrictions from the ground, homes in affected areas can now measure from Federal Emergency Management Agency flood lines, which were often below ground level.
