Live Cancellations, Delays: LIRR To Run Weekend Schedule Friday

The Long Island Rail Road will operate Friday on a weekend schedule because of the blizzard.

It also is keeping station waiting rooms open 24 hours a day to accommodate people trying to keep warm.

The weekend schedule will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

No trains will run between Greenport and Ronkonkoma and on the West Hempstead Bridge, the LIRR said.  Customers on the West Hempstead Bridge can use the Hempstead, Lynbrook, Valley Stream or Merillon Avenue stations, also in Fare Zone 4, for weekend train service. Bus service will be provided between Greenport and Ronkonkoma.

The LIRR also is cautioning people to be extra careful on slippery platforms and steps.
If snow accumulations reach 10 to 13 inches, the railroad said, it may temporarily suspend service for the safety reasons and to clear the tracks of snow.
