Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a request for variance from a Hauppauge company looking to construct a new medical office building off Terry Road.
Newsday reports the town's Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance for the new building to be 44 feet from the nearest residents, rather than the 100 feet required under code.
The Galleria Corp, a Hauppauge-based business, has submitted plans to build a 11,817-square-foot medical building off the intersection of Terry Road and Route 347. It would be setback behind the existing Walgreen's pharmacy.
The new medical office building would become one of the largest buildings off the intersection, only slightly smaller than Walgreen's that measures 14,729 square feet.
The next step towards construction is site plan approval, according to Frank DeRubeis, which includes environmental review and county approval because Route 347 is a county road.
