Nov. 6: Veterans, Scrapbooking and Italian Movies

Saturday bears a creative vibe while paying tribute to those who served in the armed forces.

This Saturday has a creative vibe while taking a moment moment to honor those who have served the United States in the armed forces. The Village of Islandia hosts its Veterans Day memorial ceremony.  Meanwhile, crafts and film fanatics descend on the area to attend festivals.

1. Village of Islandia will hold its at its Veteran War Memorial on the corners of Old Nichols Road and Johnson Avenue at 10 a.m. A brief wreath laying ceremony will be followed by a Vietnam era helicopter flyover. Attend  have the chance to get a closer look in person.

Crafters can discover new techniques for holiday gift making at the at the , 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Hundreds of vendors will be selling supplies and offering demonstrations while classes are taught. Learn a few new tricks before attempting those homemade gifts.

3. The starts at Stony Brook University at 2 p.m. Saturday's line-up features three films starting with Mine Vaganti (Loose Cannons) about a gay man who's hidden his lifestyle from family. It's a free foreign film fest.
