Possible Futures for MacArthur Airport Shown At Open House
Residents can comment on options for the Ronkonkoma airport.
Several possible plans for the expansion of Long Island MacArthur airport were on display Wednesday at an open house event held at the airport's location in Ronkonkoma.
Options drawn up by the Landrum and Brown engineering firm were posted in the airport’s lobby for residents to look at and leave comments on. Airport commissioner Robert Schaefer told Patch that while these options are under consideration, none of them are currently going forward.
"Say there is something that we want to do later on, if it's not in the master plan the FAA does not allow us to do it," Schaefer said.Several of the proposed terminal options include expanding different concourses, and two of the terminal options could connect the airport to the Long Island Rail Road.

Schaefer estimated that if any of these plans were to go forward, it could be anywhere from six to 10 years down the line for them to develop.
The proposed terminal options range in estimated cost from $11.5 million up to $388.8 million.Also on display were possible runway changes and a proposed master plan.
