Seven Hauppauge Businesses Receive Job Creation Money

Amneal Pharmaceuticals gets $3 million, Sciegen Pharmaceuticals gets $2.4 million in state grants from Gov. Cuomo.

Seven Hauppauge area businesses netted nearly $6 million in state grants through Gov. Andrew Cuomo's $785 million signature development initiative.

The two largest local winners are both pharmaceutical companies based the Hauppauge Industrial Park who hope to use their portion to expand their footprint and range of productions.

Amneal Pharmaceuticals received a $3,000,000 grant. Amneal will use the money to undertake an expansion project of adding 265,000-square-feet on to its existing structures and construct a new 35,000-square-foot facility dedicated to production potent compounds.

Sciegen Pharmaceuticals on Davids Drive received a $2,421,000 grant from Gov. Cuomo in order to purchase new machinery and equipment. These purchases will be used towards the development of low-cost generic drugs that will be manufactured, marketed and distributed to help provide healthcare at an economical cost. Sciegen has also set aside a portion of the grant for future expansion into a larger building.

  • 1-Source Electronic Components on Route 111 received $46,410 to train 20 current employees to help improve its quality management, prepare for internal audits and become industry certified.
  • Contract Pharamcal Corp. will use its $48,2000 to train 67 of its Hauppauge employees in 12 courses to introduce lean manufacturing practices to its operation.
  • received $48,400 to train 63 Hauppauge employees in lean manufacturing and customer service to improve on-time delivery rates and increase productivity.
  • , a Hauppauge-based optics manufacturer will use $50,000 receive to train 42 employees in the latest version of Microsoft Dynamics, an advanced Enterprise Resource Planning Program.
  • New York Label & Box in Islandia will purchase machinery and equipment with its $160,400 grant to re-establish its packaging division and convert the company to a quality-drive innovative packaging company.

The New York Times reports that Long Island as a whole received $101.6 million dollars from Gov. Cuomo's initiatives, as one of the ten regions within the state competing for the economic development funds.

Gov. Cuomo's grants and awards on Long Island are focused on reviving its manufacturing and the smart suburban growth initiatives. Other regional large grant winners included housing and transportation initiatives, an electric grid project between Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory, and a new cancer drug being developed at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, according to The New York Times.
