Smithtown Town Board Tackles Code Changes, Building Plan Approval

Smithtown Town Board to host its first October meeting 2 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall.

Smithtown Town Board members will hear out residents on changes to the town code, as well as vote on whether to grant approval to several proposed building plans.

Smithtown Town Board will hold a public meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Town Hall, 99 W. Main St., Smithtown. All Town of Smithtown residents or business owners are welcome to attend.

The town board's agenda features two public hearings. The first will be to consider special exception permits for Verizon Wireless to make modifications to a public utility pole on Southern Boulevard in Nesconset. The second will be on a proposed amendment to town code's "Parks, Buildings and Grounds" section as relates to commercial activities held in local parks and beaches.

Smithtown officials are also expected to vote on whether to require Fairview Holding Corp, owners of 10 Fairview Ave., to remove all garbage, litter, graffiti and debris from the property. Smithtown Patch asked residents in November 2011 if the former trucking facility was "Smithtown's Biggest Eyesore."

"Not as bad as the old lumber yard that was torn down on west main street but pretty close!," wrote reader Robert DeMarzo.

The town board will also vote on whether to approve site plans for several businesses looking to build in Town of Smithtown. One set of plans is for a new Bahama Breeze restaurant built on Smith Haven Mall's property in Nesonset, on the corrner of Middle Country Road and Alexander Avenue.

Other site plans seeking approve include Acer's Garden Center and the expansion of Cosentino Commerce Center in Commack.
