Town Addresses Heroin Epidemic in Viral Video [YouTube]

Not-for-profit organization Kings Park in the kNOw aims to tackle the local drug problem.

Following the arrest of  the Town of Smithtown took to its YouTube channel to discuss the local epidemic and "Kings Park in the kNOw," a group dedicated to eliminating drugs in the community.

The SmithtownGTV channel aired the video the day after the announcement of the arrests, documenting the purpose and goals of the not-for-profit organization. While the group is Kings Park based, the scope has expanded to other local communities throughout the Town of Smithtown.

"We basically want to see drug dealers and drug users out of our town ... There's an epidemic going on so we're reacting to what we've seen on the streets, what we're hearing from our families, we're trying to keep it out of our schools and out of our town," Executive Director of the organization Debbie Danley said in the video.

And thank you for proving my point on what the people of KP have become. Judgemental, finger-pointing, self-righteous, back-patting, upper-class "anonymous" NIMBYS with blinders on. Both sad & pathetic...

I'm inclined to believe John, I've heard to many stories of SCPD abusing their power to the point it's gross. anyone remember that incident behind ihop? bet you didn't get the full story either. also i think they're looking to bust kids with pot more so than the dangerous opiates/prescription stuff they should be looking for.

Thank You, John. Back when we were younger, we were harrassed by the police on a nightly basis. We were a good bunch of kids, we kept to ourselves, never had a history of major drugs or violence. Of course we stood on the side of 7-11 waiting for someone to buy us beers on occasion. But there were two police officers in town that had it in for us. An Officer Tom Whelan & another one I just knew as Officer Artie. These two cops decided that we were bad news & tried everything in their power to bust us on something. Illegal searches, harrassment, rifling thru our cars, holding us in the back of their patrol cars, trying to pressure us into admitting some kind of wrong-doing we had nothing to do with. They never got us on anything because we weren't that type of crowd. But try explaining that to them. Clueless & out of touch with the youth. They always were. Meanwhile, three blocks away at the Key Food Shopping Center, kids were selling acid by the truckload right under their noses. That's why to this day, I have absolutely no use for Suffolk Police enforcement of any kind. They're three steps ahead of themselves & five steps behind everybody else...

Kings Park?? I thought everyone there used drugs. Main street is falling apart, parents fighting at youth sporting events, the town freak on the school board... The best kept secret on the north shore?? Get real. Heroin is the least of their problems.
