What Roads Are Plowed in Hauppauge?

With the town being quiet on road updates, help us create a list for the community.

It's day two after a blizzard shrouded Smithtown in more than two feet, and one question continues ring out from frustrated locals: Where are the plows?

While Smithtown Patch was able to reach the town's public safety director John Valentine on Saturday, he was not able to give specific details on the state of the town's roads, and what is causing many neighborhood streets to go unplowed since Friday.

Multiple calls to town highway officials, meanwhile, went unanswered, and after 2 p.m. went straight to voicemail. The town also does not give updates on its websites, unlike nearby Brookhaven Town, which on Saturday opened a portal on its website where folks could report unplowed roads.

Officials in other towns have said the volume of snow, and the many abandoned cars on the major roadways, has slowed down plowing efforts.

Smithtown did post this message in its site at 6 p.m. on Saturday: "Town of Smithtown Highway and Parks Departments are working diligently to clear Smithtown roadways. Please be patient as there is a tremendous volume of snow to be removed from town roads. Please stay off town roads if at all possible."

In the interim, comments on this site and social media have overflowed, with many calling out the town for what they say is a poor response to the blizzard.

"I have lived in the Town of Smithtown for 39 years and I have always bragged about what a great job the Smithtown Hwy Dept does during snow storms. My bragging has ended with this storm. What happended this time? The lack of snow clearing is so unusual that it makes me think that some kind of drastic change in town policy is behind this. Can anyone in the Hwy Dept explain this?," Ted Kiladitis wrote.

At Patch, we'd like you to help us create a list of what's plowed and not plowed in town so far. Just add a comment below with the name of your street and whether it is plowed or not. Send this link to people you know so we can create a comprehensive list. We will be forwarding this link to the town, as well.

COSTS OF LIPA, OIL, & yes TAXES GO UP & WE HAVE TO WAIT 2 DAYS FOR OUR STREETS TO GET PLOWED! Should have called Legislator John Kennedy, he's the only one who seems to get things done in his town.

Whitespruce Ln, Hauppauge (Town of Islip) near State office Bldgs has also not been plowed. There have been snows this large before and never have we gone 2 days without seeing a plow. TOI says "plows are in your area & you'll get one pass only" Can't wait for my driveway to be plowed shut!!! I also think something is up in the towns-this is unacceptable.

Just heard Croci BS on News 12. Canterbury and area just plowed to a single lane only. If one car leaves the neighborhood while another pulls in they cannot pass each other. Croci , Bergin, Flotteron were disasters during this snow. Nolan and Baker used to have the Indy's plow all night as the snows fell so that it would not be too heavy and icy for small plows to work. They waited to storms end and now only big trucks can plow and they do not have enough of them. Record tax increase, shameful political power grabs, airport taxi bid irregularities, selling town land with no bids from Realtors on commission rates and now this John Lindsey like 1969 handling of the snow. Throw them out starting this November, no excuses!

where are the plows!!!!!!!!!!! 347 is terrible! Unanswered questions regarding plowing roads........Shame on you for not listening to residents and keeping the roads hazardous. My gated coomunity, Hamlet at Windwatch in Hauppauge, roads are hazardous and dangerous. Who will listen? Suffolk county and its residents should be up in arms!!!!!!!!!!Responsibility........there is none! Shame on all resonsible in keeping the roads and our communities safe!

We just got plowed on N Hoffman. Considering how much snow we got and how many stupid people got stuck on the roads I think they did a good job. I could wait one day.

Typical Bergin Flotteron arrogance! All the councilmen are south shore and have complete disdain for Hauppauge. We should have kept the Nolan Reform Team.
Mark D West February 11, 2013 at 01:24 AM
Is not Holiday Park Drive plowed by the community and not the town?
Celinda Iaboni February 11, 2013 at 02:49 AM

Linda Wurtz February 11, 2013 at 04:57 PM
6:00 pm on Sunday Shandon Court finally plowed - two small plows, worked very hard and did a good job given the amount of snow.
chuck Merritt February 11, 2013 at 08:18 PM
Park is a disaster. 55,000 people could not get to work this moring
Janice Harkins February 11, 2013 at 08:57 PM
Total bs i live on southern blvd. Between Hauppauge road and townline road and yes we were plowed last night and today and they make the road worse each time. I have had to be out driving daily for work and my car is not working right due to the worst plowing job in 33 years thank you for nothing!!!!
geraldine covino February 11, 2013 at 10:02 PM
Finally after many, many calls to the town Denise Lane and Dione Lane were plowed at 2pm this afternoon. Croci will get an earful at the Town Hall meeting on Tuesday night!!!
