Hauppauge High School inducted 12 honorees into their Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday morning.
Hauppauge Public School district officials honored this year's inductees in a morning ceremony at Stonebridge County Club in Smithtown Saturday. This year's class featured 10 athletes, one coach and an honorary member who have made significant contributions to the Hauppauge Eagles athletic community.
The 2011 Class included athletes Jonathan Cusano, Eric Ericksen, Douglas Gannon, Allison Gunther, Cheryl C. Gunther, Sean Hughes, Justin Iannello, Lauren McGrory, Lisa A. Kelly and Ron Purcell.
Rose Messina, mother of Hauppauge varsity wrestling coach Chris Messina, was selected as the 2011 honorary member for her endless support of Hauppauge's wrestling program.
James Steigerwald was inducted into Hauppauge's Athletic Hall of Fame for his year's coaching in Hauppauge.
To be considered for Hauppauge's Athletic Hall of fame, honorees must have been an athlete, coach or athletic administrator, made outstanding contributions to the Eagles sports community or be a family with two or more members participating in the Hauppauge athletic programs.
All nominees are judged based on how they meet nine criteria: varsity level competition; leadership; impact on athletic program; scholastic ability; awards and/or honors; school, county or state record holder; post-graduate image and outstanding post-graduate achievement.
