Hauppauge Wrestling Wins Pre-Season Tournament

Mark West brings home a win for Hauppauge Wrestling in the 126 lbs weight class on Dec. 10.

Hauppauge Eagles Wrestling brought home a pre-season win this Saturday, hopefully a good omen of what's to come in the 2011-2012 wrestling season.

The Hauppauge varsity wrestling team won the annual Sprig Gardner Tournament at East Hampton High School with 267.5 points on Dec. 10. The Eagles beat out a field of eight other schools including Ward Melville (217.5 points) in second place and Westhampton Beach (206 points) who took home third.

27 East reports that it was Hauppauge wrestling's first time competing in the East Hampton tournament, bringing a new level of competition to an already difficult field.

Mark West helped lead the Eagles with a win in the 126-lb weight class over East Hampton's Sawyer Bushman, 7-0. West placed fourth in Suffolk County last season and was a state champion two years ago, is expected to be one of the team's strengths this upcoming season.
