Hauppauge, NY -- The Arbors Assisted Living Community at Hauppauge is hosting a free “Aid & Attendance” veteran pension benefit seminar to help educate and provide information to veterans about the new rate increases available within the Veterans Administration’s (VA) Aid and Attendance Pension starting this month, as well as eligibility and the application process. This is a federally funded program available to wartime military veterans and their families.
While this program has been available for decades, many veterans are unaware of it. Unlike other aid-based programs, this benefit can be used to pay for living-related expenses, which can include home care and assisted living costs. If the military veteran him/herself is deceased, then the surviving spouse may be qualified to apply for the program.
Light refreshments and a Q&A session will immediately follow the discussion, which will be led by The Arbors Assisted Living Communities' Veterans Liaison Patrick Yngstrom, who is the former Nassau County Director of Veterans Affairs and long-time Deputy Director. This marks the first of a total of four "Aid and Attendance" seminars that The Arbors at Hauppauge will host throughout 2012 and is among eight other "Aid and Attendance" seminars that The Arbors Assisted Living Communities will present throughout its five communities across Long Island.
