FAQ Answers 100 Questions on Homeless Assistance Act

Parents attending Hauppauge Homeless Student forum on Tuesday night received this handout.

Residents attending two-hour community meeting on the placement of homeless students in Hauppauge School District received an important FAQ.

Legis. John Kennedy, R-Nesconset, handed out a packet titled "The 100 Most Frequently Asked Questions on the Educations Rights of Children and Youth in Homeless Situations" written by the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth.

The 29-page document answers questions relating to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, a federal law that outlines the treatment of homeless students receiving an education. It was referenced several times when by county officials attempting to answer questions on Tuesday night, or as explanation of why they could not give out specific details.
