Hauppauge Administrator Goes to Port Jeff Schools

Director of Math Matthew Murphy will leave to become principal of Port Jefferson HIgh School.

A Hauppauge school administrator will be leaving the school district this spring to take up a new role in Port Jefferson. 

Matthew Murphy, Hauppauge's director of K-12 math, has been hired as the new high school principal by  , to replace Roseann Cirnigliaro from the district in February.

In an email announcing the hiring, Port Jeff Superintendent Kenneth Bossert said that during the regular business meeting of the Board of Education on May 8 members unanimously appointed Matthew Murphy to the position. His job officially begins on July 1.

“During his time in Hauppauge, Dr. Murphy has been instrumental in the implementation of new curriculum aligned with the Common Core standards as well as movement toward International Baccalaureate (IB) certification,” wrote Bossert.

Murphy was also both the Director of Math and Science and the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the South Country Central School District. Murphy, who received his doctorate in Educational Administration, Leadership and Technology from Dowling College in 2009, was once a teacher in the Smithtown School District as well.

Murphy thanked the Board of Education after his appointment.

“I look forward to helping to continue the standard of excellence that the Port Jefferson School District is known for,” he is quoted as saying in a statement sent out by the Port Jefferson school district.
