Hauppauge High School achieved a national ranking of No. 363, a state ranking of No. 30 in New York and a No. 4 ranking in Suffolk County among a list of the nation’s “Most Challenging High Schools” published by the Washington Post.

A total of 1,933 high schools were ranked throughout the nation on an index the Washington Post determined using a ratio of graduating high school seniors to the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given in a single year. The rankings also take into consideration the number of families that qualify for lunch subsidies and the percentage of graduates who passed one or more college-level exams during their high school careers.

Only 9 percent of approximately 22,000 U.S. public high schools qualified for a ranking.

Jericho High School was ranked the top school on Long Island with an overall New York State rank of No. 2 and a No. 80 national ranking.
