A Hauppauge High School student has won a trip to German for his hard effort in studying the language.
Nicholas Karavolias has been awarded an all-expense-paid summer study trip to Germany after taking the Level 3 National German Exam for High School students, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German.
Karavolias scored in the 90th percentile of students who took the exam, out of the nearly 23,000 students nationwide who participate in the program. He qualified on the National German Exam and then submitted answers to several short essay questions in German and English, before being interviewed by a committee.
The Hauppauge student will be one of 44 outstanding German students selected from across the U.S. to participate in the study abroad program. Karavolias will receive round-trip airfare, stay with a host family, and paid excursions to places of cultural and historical significance.
Karavolias's teacher at Hauppauge High School is Herr Schnur.
