Newly elected Board of Education members David Barshay, Gary Fortmeyer and Rob Scarito took their seats on the Hauppauge School Board for the first time Tuesday.
Eileen Mass, former vice president of the board, was elected president, and Susan Hodosky was elected vice president.
The board now has six members, since former trustee, Patricia Lesser, resigned, stating that she will soon be moving out of the district.
After a lengthy discussion, the board decided that it will appoint a member of the community to the board to serve until the next election in May 2014.
Those interested in the position should send their resume and a one-page cover letter to the district clerk's office by July 29 at 3 p.m. The board will then hold a special meeting Aug. 1 to discuss the appointment.
