Photo of the Day: School Board Honors Essay Contest Winners
Three Hauppauge students were selected as the winners of Smithtown VFW's Voice of Democracy essay contest.
Hauppauge school district's Board of Education recognized three students selected as winners of the Smithtown Veterans of Foreing War's 2011 essay contest. Each student wrote a short essay answering the question "Is There Pride in Serving Our Military?"
Hauppauge High School student Teresa Tellekamp was selected as the the first place winner, and read her essay at Smithtown's Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11. The full text of her winning essay can be read here, as published on Smithtown Matters.
In second place was Ricardo Gunther, and third-place was awarded to Jonah Belser in the annual essay writing contest.
