A Hauppauge third grader has taken first place at  Brookhaven National Lab for her unique science projects. 

Hannah Fioramonti, a student, won first place in the 2012 annual Brookhaven National Lab's Science Fair for her project "Salamander style." Projected are judged by grade level. 

This is Fioramonti's second consecutive year winning Brookhaven's Science Fair, as with her project "Dirty Hands, Dirty Money," that researched the cleanliness of paper money.

More than 540 students from 118 Suffolk County school districts competed in the 2011 Brookhaven National Science Fair on May 7. The fair was started in 1985 in hopes of generate an interest in science among Suffolk County students, according to Brookhaven Lab spokeswoman Diane Greenberg.
