Sex Offender Registers Residence in Hauppauge

A Level 1 sex offender has registered a residence within the zip code 11788, according to a letter sent to the community by the superintendent of the Hauppauge school district.

For a convicted sex offender registered as Level 1, meaning the lowest level of risk, law enforcement agencies do not disclose the exact address of the person.

"It is unfortunate, but necessary, that we all take this opportunity to review safety rules with our children and remind them to avoid circumstances that might increase their vulnerability," school superintendent Patricia Sullivan-Kriss said in the letter. "Please help your children keep this issue in the proper perspective by reassuring them that ours is a very safe community, but that, in this day and age, everyone needs to be alert and careful."

The letter clarified that the sex offender's residence is within the Hauppauge zip code but is not necessarily located within the school district.

According to a search of the New York State sex offender registry, there are seven Level 1 sex offenders and one Level 2 sex offender living within the Hauppauge zip code. A search page for convicted sex offenders can be found here.
