Smithtown Business Tax Incentive on Board of Education's Agenda

Here's a sneak peace at the Hauppauge Board of Education's agenda for Dec. 6.

The Hauppauge school district's Board of Education will hold their only meeting for December at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the former Whiporwhil Elementary School.

Board trustees plan to discuss the . The plan will offer businesses, in selected areas of the town, who build or make improvements totaling at least $50,000 a tax break on their property taxes.

Peter Johnson, assessor for the Town of Smithtown, attended the board's November meeting in order to explain the tax incentive to school officials and ask them to come onboard with the plan versus filing for an exemption. Johnson said the Hauppauge Industrial Park is a key area in the incentive's future implementation.
