Students Bring Home Top Honors In Math Olympiads

Bretton Woods fourth- and fifth-grade students take first place in Suffolk County, while Forest Brook students win second place.

Hauppauge elementary school students won top honors at the fourth annual Suffolk County Math Olympiads Competition held at Stony Brook University. Bretton Woods fourth- and fifth-grade students won first place, while Forest Brook students took second place overall.

The Math Olympiads competition challenges students to use multi-step and higher-level mathematics skills to solve problems in both individual and team competitions. During the individual section, students were given 30 minutes to solve 10 problems. For the team portion, five students worked to solve 10 larger problems in 20 minutes.

Hauppauge was one of 15 school districts who had students participating in the competition.
