Students Thinking of Mauriello This Valentine's Day

Giant oversized Valentine's day card made for recovering Mauriello, in addition to multitude of fundraising activities.

Hauppauge High School students are thinking of junior Nick Mauriello, Jr. this Valentine's Day. 

Two classes at broke out the construction paper, scissors and markers to create homemade valentines for Mauriello,

Student Lauren Mateja said she thought it would be a great idea send Mauriello a host of valentines from friends and classmates on the holiday to show that he remains in their thoughts.

Mateja said she asked two of her classes to write inspirational sayings on Valentine's hearts bearing typical Sweetheart candy messages of "Thinking of You" to situational "Stay Strong," and more personalized ones. 

These hearts were then attached to a poster to create one large, oversized Valentine's Day card designed to cheer up Mauriello. It will be delivered to his hospital room.

Mauriello's family announced Sunday night that Mauriello had been transfered out of the intensive care unit, to the regular pediatric floor at Stony Brook Children's hospital and are weaning him off oxygen. 

The junior was expected to be a strong competitor in the 125 pound weight class for a Suffolk County title,

The Valentine's Day card is one of the many fundraisers and efforts to rally support in Hauppauge community for the Mauriello family. Within the schools, students are doing everything from selling slices of pizza, to creating bracelets and T-shirts for Mauriello.

Monetary donations are being accepted by Hauppauge athletic trainer David Smith, or can be sent directly to the Mauriello family per Hauppauge Wrestling website.
